- 1 cup rice
- 1⁄2 cup tuvar dal
- 1 onion
- 8 shallots
- 1 tomatoes
- 1 carrot
- 4 beans
- 1⁄2 cup peas
- 2 cloves
- 1 cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon anise seed
- 2 teaspoons coriander seeds
- 3 -4 red chilies
- 1 teaspoon khus khus
- 2 teaspoons coconut
- 2 cups tamarind juice
- 10 curry leaves
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon turmeric
- 2 tablespoons coriander
- 2 tablespoons ghee
- 10 roasted cashews
directions
- Wash the rice and dal well. Cook them separately in a pressure cooker.
- Remove the cooked rice and dal, mash them well and keep aside.
- Heat oil in a frying pan add the coriander seeds, red chilli, coconut, clove, cinnamon, aniseed, khus-khus, methi seeds and fry till nice aroma comes. Cool them and then grind to a fine paste with very little water, keep it aside.
- Heat 1 tbsp oil in a big kadai add the bay leaf. Now add the sliced onion, cut drumsticks-vegetable (optional), sliced tomato and fry for a minute.
- Meanwhile boil separately the cut beans, carrots in another pot till they are cooked.
- To the fried onion mixture add the tamarind water, turmeric, curry leaves. Let it boil and once the veggies are cooked, add the cooked beans, carrot to it.
- Mix in peas, salt.
- Now add the cooked, mashed dal and rice, also the ground paste. Reduce the heat and mix well.
- Continue cooking on low flame for 8 minutes, while stirring continuously.
- Check for salt.
- Remove onto a serving dish.
- Top it with the ghee, chopped coriander and fried cashews.
