  • 1 (18 1/4 ounce) chocolate cake mix
  • 14 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tablespoons butter, room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons maraschino cherry juice
  • 1 (12 ounce) cherry pastry filling (not pie filling)

Directions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F.
  2. Combine cake mix and cocoa.
  3. Cut in butter until crumbly.
  4. Add eggs and cherry juice; mix well.
  5. Spread HALF in a greased 13 x 9" metal pan.
  6. Drop pastry filling by small spoonfuls to within 1/2" of edges. Spread gently to cover chocolate mixture.
  7. Drop remaining chocolate mixture by small spoonfuls and gently spread to cover filling. Make sure it touches the pan on all sides or it will shrink when it bakes.
  8. Bake 25 - 28 minutes.
