  1. I have to say, we thought we were in heaven. This cobbler was as good or better than any my mother or grandmother used to make. My DH was frothing at the mouth. Many thanks for an incredible recipe.

  2. I added a little cinnamon and lemon zest to the berries for a little extra flavor. Very good.

  3. Thank you for this recipe! I followed some of the others suggestions. Used 1/2 c of sugar on berries and 1/2 c of sugar in cake mix. Used 1/2 stick of butter and 1/4 applesauce and baked for 45 minutes. Very Very good!!

  4. I was afraid that the batter would come out too cakey but the consistency was kind of like a biscuit which isn't bad. It's very good when served warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

  5. I made this to take to a friends house for dinner. I doubled the recipe and used 1 and 1/2 cups of sugar. I placed in a 9x13 cake pan and the cobbler baked up perfectly. We served this with ice cream and was devoured by everyone, with no leftovers. This is now our favorite cobbler recipe.

Tweaks

  1. I used buttermilk instead of regular milk. I like the tang it gives baked goods!

  2. Yum!! This is delicious and reminds me of the cobblers my grandmother made when I was younger. We like more cobbler with our berries so I doubled the dough. I used frozen berries and sprinkled them with sugar before defrosting in the microwave. I added about a cup of sugar to the dough and used applesauce in place of half the butter. Spooned the berries and the syrup over the dough and baked all this in an 8x11 pan for 45 minutes and it was so good. Thank you for sharing your wonderful recipe!

  3. Made this for the 4th of July. I loved getting all the compliments that I should have given Di credit for. But I basked in her glory! It is an easy to follow recipe and it tastes very good. I used frozen blackberries, applesauce in place of the oil and I split my sugar - half to the berries and half to the cake. I also added nuts. It's a keeper that I will use with other fruits in the future. Thanks so much.

  4. I used mixed unsweetened frozen strawberries, raspberries and blueberries in place of blackberries. I doubled the recipe, rinsed the frozen berries, and added the full cup of sugar. When I put the berries on top of the cobbler, where it didn't cover the cobbler completely, it didn't have flavor. Adding a little sugar or sweetner to the cobbler would fix that problem.

  5. this was THE best cobbler ever! i did make one change though: i subbed strawberries for blackberries (since blackberries aren't available where i am). i did wat sacajawea suggested and sprinkled sugar on top of the strawberries in the end instead of mixing and letting them sit. the two of us finished the whole thing lol. just perfect!!
