For the bars
- 3⁄4 cup quick oats
- 1 1⁄2 cups flour
- 1⁄3 cup sugar
- 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1⁄4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 3 tablespoons applesauce
- 1 egg
- 1⁄2 cup orange juice
- 1⁄2 teaspoon vanilla
- 3⁄4 cup frozen blueberries, thawed

For the topping
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 4 tablespoons sugar
directions
- Combine the oats, flour, sugar, salt, baking powder and nutmeg.
- Mix well.
- Mix in butter until crumbly.
- In a separate bowl, beat the egg and then mix in orange juice and vanilla.
- Combine the two mixtures and blend.
- Drain the blueberries and combine with mix.
- Put batter in a greased pan.
- Brush the topc with the melted butter and top with sugar.
- Bake at 375 for 20-25 minutes or until browned on top.

Mine did not turn blue because I used fresh blueberries. Next time I would add a lot more blueberries or maybe some nuts. The flavor of the orange juice was nice. I used cinnamon instead of nutmeg. Also, I used a gluten-free flour blend, and veganized the recipe by using Earth Balance non-hydrogenated margarine instead of butter and Ener-G egg replacer. Thanks for posting this; we enjoyed it.
