British Bacon Butty/ Sandwich

"A bacon sandwich is a very British breakfast. This is my favourite version of it. The type of bacon to use is back bacon, not the typical American streaky bacon. Everyone has their favourite version of this recipe- this is just my take on a classic! My nephew is a picky eater and this sandwich was his first ever taste of bacon! To make this Weight Watchers friendly, I sometimes use the bacon medallions that have the fat trimmed off- if using these, reduce the cooking time so they don't dry out. This is also excellent served in a white roll with a fried egg."

  1. Great sandwich!! I used 6 slices of thick-sliced bacon per each sandwich. (The bacon I used was, Patrick Cudahy Sweet Apple-Wood Bacon.) Instead of white bread, I used 100% whole wheat, plus used Hellmann's Mayonnaise on my bread, while I used Burman's Salad Dressing (from Aldi's), on my husband's bread. Needless to say, I prefered the taste of the salad dressing with the bacon, over the mayo. Also enjoyed the combination of the salad dressing/ketchup, added to the sandwich. This made one heck of a hearty sandwich!! The sandwich tasted great with the creamy kohlrabi-vegetable soup we had for lunch. Shuzbud, thank you for posting this recipe. This really is one delicious tasting sandwich!!!

  2. Oh, please, what's a bacon butty without a little mayo? One of my very favorite b'fast/brunch sammies, although I had never used ketchup on one. Live and learn! Thoroughly enjoyed. Thnx for sharing your recipe, Shuzbud, Made for the Voracious Vagabonds of ZWT 6.

  3. I didn't add the ketchup and I toasted my bread and use 6 slices of bacon, but I love the bacon sandwiches especially with tea.

  4. This is one of the best comfort foods, I ate it in less than a minute, just wolfed it down. Loved the ketchup addition

  5. I just love a bacon butty and also chip butties (with gravy), the only change I made for to use wholemeal/wholegrain bread and b-b-q sauce instead of tomatoe and used middlecut bacon, got greedy and used 2 full rashers. Thank you Shuzbud, made for Everyday A Holiday.

I am a primary school teacher living in Bristol, England. At the moment I teach Kindergarten, known here as Reception. I really love my job but it doesn't leave much time for hobbies! I enjoy cooking for friends and aim to try new recipes as often as possible! My signature dish has to be White Chocolate Blondies, as it is my most requested sweet treat, and I definitely have a sweet tooth! Update- 5-5-09: Somebody was very thoughtful and gave me the gift of a premium membership. I can honestly say it made me feel so good! If you're out there, THANK YOU so much! I can't quite believe the generosity... <img src="http://i13.photobucket.com/albums/a254/Sharon123/Copyoftag300-banner.jpg" border="0" alt="Susie's Banner for Newest Zaar Tag"> <img src="http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj81/HokiesLady65/Recipezaar%20Album/iplaytagin.jpg"> <img src="http://i147.photobucket.com/albums/r317/j_welcome/pics2/food/PRMRcopy.jpg"> <img src="http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a132/tgifford/Game%20Room%20Banners/AM%20Banners/holidaybadge.gif" border="0" alt="Photobucket"X> <img src="http://i270.photobucket.com/albums/jj81/HokiesLady65/Banners/holidayprmr2.jpg"> <img src="http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j166/ZaarNicksMom/Animation6.gif"> <img src="http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j166/ZaarNicksMom/PACsticker-Adopted.jpg"> <img src="http://img29.imageshack.us/img29/7505/mybanner4a394ee84d5f0.jpg" > <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v726/annacia/Permanent%20Banners/cc-banner-7-09.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a> <img src="http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg271/MrsTeny/Permanent%20Collection/PACSpring09Participation.jpg"> <img src="http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg271/MrsTeny/Permanent%20Collection/PACSpring09Iwasadopted.jpg">
