Bull's Eye Original Barbecue Sauce Copycat

"This is a copycat recipe that comes close to the taste of Bull's Eye Original Barbecue Sauce. It's sweet and spicy. This is the only barbecue sauce that I use now."

  1. This is a GREAT recipe, the family loved it. We're trying to get away from store-bought sauces; this is the 3rd recipe I've tried and it's a keeper. I used a grater for the onions, and followed the recipe exactly. Note that it does have a different taste when it's hot, as opposed to cold, but most bbq sauces do. My husband said it tastes exactly like Bull's-Eye (our favorite). I thought it was extremely close, but not exact, however it was just as good and I'll definitely make it again. Thank you!!

  2. This recipe is AMAZING, it's the only BBQ sauce my kids want now. My only issue is that I don't know if it's safe to can it. I followed the recipe exactly, but after making it a few times (in big batches) I now use the "fine" side of my cheese grater to grate the onions instead of dicing them...doesn't change the taste at all, it's just quicker, and easier on the eyes ??

  3. I'm a big fan of the bullseye Guinness bbq sauce and was using this to get there. I made a couple of adjustments, and while I'm not sure how close it came I couldn't care less. It turned out so well! This is a great base recipe to make tweaks to your own taste . I used onion powder, garlic powder, a little extra hot sauce, and about a cup of Homebrew stout.

  4. I grew up eating this sauce at McDonald's, and it was always on the shelves of the supermarkets in California. I now live in Omaha, and this item is rarely stocked on the shelves, so I can't have my favorite chicken and ribs bbq sauce!!! D: So, thanks for posting this recipe! I can't give a rating yet, because I'm about to make the recipe, but it looks very good.

  5. Our family has been a fan of Bulls Eye for years, but since the first ingredient listed is "high fructose corn syrup" I wanted to find an alternative. This was very close and I will definitely make again! The only modification I made was using 1 tsp. of the hickory smoke instead of 4 tsp. as I was afraid it would be too strong.

Tweaks

  1. I may try it with some honey substituted for a portion of the brown sugar, or I might brown the onions in some bourbon for an additional flavor!

  2. I used 1 tsp. of the hickory smoke instead of 4 tsp. as I was afraid of overpowering.
