“I invented this when I wanted to make something with the ingredients that I had, but also wanted something with a depth of flavors. DH thought it was ok and could use more cheese. Oh, well. He doesn't like sloppy joe's at all. But, I thought it was very good.”

Ingredients Nutrition

  • 12 lb hot Italian sausage
  • 12 lb extra lean ground beef
  • 12 cup salsa
  • 12 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 12 teaspoon onion salt
  • 12 teaspoon dried onion, minced
  • 12 teaspoon parsley
  • 12 teaspoon oregano
  • 12 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 large tomatoes, diced
  • 1 12 ounces dry burrito mix (I used Lawry's)
  • 8 -10 hot dog buns, split
  • 8 -10 slices American cheese


  1. In a large saucepan or Dutch oven over medium heat, cook sausage and ground beef until no longer pink.
  2. Add seasonings, tomatoes, salsa.
  3. Bring to a boil, lower heat and simmer for 30 minutes.
  4. Add Burrito seasoning and let cook 10 more minutes.
  5. Layer cheese inside hot dog rolls.
  6. Spoon about 1/2 cup onto each roll.
  7. Serve.
