- brownie batter
- 1 cup butter or 1 cup margarine
- 1⁄4 cup unsweetened cocoa
- 1 cup water
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups flour
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 1⁄2 cup buttermilk
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 eggs, beaten
- 1 teaspoon vanilla

Frosting
- 1⁄2 cup butter or 1/2 cup margarine
- 1⁄2 cup buttermilk
- 1⁄4 cup unsweetened cocoa
- 1 lb powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
directions
- In a saucepan, bring butter, cocoa and water to a boil. Cool. Meanwhile in a large mixing bowl combine the sugar, flour and salt.
- Pour cocoa mixture over dry ingredients mix well. Combine buttermilk and baking soda. Add to cocoa mixture along with eggs and vanilla.
- Mix until well combined.
- Pour into greased and floured 15x10x1" baking pan (or 2 9x13" pans) Bake at 350 for 20 min (or 400 for 15 min)
- For Frosting: Melt butter, cocoa and buttermilk. Stir in sugar, vanilla and salt. Spread over warm cake.
