Butterscotch Brownies

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees, and grease a 9x13 inch baking pan, set aside.
  • In a medium saucepan, melt the butter over medium heat.
  • Add brown sugar, and stir 1-2 minutes, or until a thick peanut butter like consistancy.
  • Remove from heat, and stir in the beaten egg, and vanilla, followed by the flour, salt, and baking powder.
  • Once combined, stir in the nuts.
  • Spread the batter into prepared pan and bake until the edges begin to brown.and a toothpick inserted comes out clean, about 25-30 minutes.
  • Cut into 2 x 2 inch squares while warm and sprinkle with powdered sugar.

  1. This is a great recipe, quick and easy. and very butterscotchy! I use the microwave to melt the butter and brown sugar (in a glass bowl) and I double this recipe for a 13 by 9 pan. My grandsons prefer to omit the nuts (which I love) and instead sprinkle the top with about a cup of chocolate chips before baking. A panful only lasts a day here - so yummy!
