Caprese Salad

"Courtesy of KCStar (my local newspaper). I love Caprese salad....specially the one at Macaroni Grill. I will be making this soon!!! The only thing I would add is balsamic vinegar...but that is because I LOVE IT. It's optional!!!"

directions

  • Cut tomatoes into 1/4-in. slices and arrange on a plate, alternating tomatoes with mozzarella slices.
  • Scatter basil ribbons over the tomatoes and mozzarella.
  • Drizzle with olive oil and season to taste with salt and pepper.
  • NOTE: I would add a bit of balsamic vinegar when I serve it on my plate because it's like the one at Macaroni and Grill.

  1. I concur with the suggestion to add some balsamic. I put a 50/50 combination of balsamic and EVOO into a jar with a pinch of salt and 1 tsp brown sugar. Shake well in the jar, and then drizzle on the salad. Delicious!!!

  2. Excellent summer salad. I used fresh heirloom tomatoes. I used white balsamic vinegar and in my opinion, it should not be optional. It makes the salad very tangy and tasty. You really only need about 1 tbsp of olive oil. Loved the fresh taste. Thanx!

  3. I love this salad. But instead of using a Balsamic Vinegar, I just added a few sliced Kalamati Olives. Yumm! Thanks for a great recipe.

  4. Fantastic salad! One of my favorites. I added some garlic powder along with the salt and pepper which was great and of course I used the balsamic! Made for PAC Sprinig 2010.

  5. Perfectly delicious! Easy and attractive. Thanks Vanessa7 for sharing. Made as posted for Fall PAC.
