  1. Heat oil in heavy saucepan over medium-low heat. Add onions and sage.
  2. Cover and cook until onions are deep golden brown, stirring occasionally, about 30 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and let cool.
  4. In blender, blend sour cream, mayonnaise and buttermilk for 20 seconds (I'm sure a food processor would work just as well).
  5. Add cooled onions, salt and pepper; blend for 30 seconds.
  6. Serve in bowl with sliced green onions sprinkled on top. Serve with chips, crackers or veggies.
