Cat Scat Cookies

"These look like so much fun for a Halloween or children's party. For best visual results, serve the cookies in a new, washed!, kitty litter pan, lined with foil and serve the cookies with a new, washed kitty litter scoop. Chicago Sun-Times."

directions

  • Place honey in a heat-proof bowl and microwave on high heat until bubbles appear, about a minute; add butter and stir until combined. Add flour, cocoa powder, egg and vanilla and stir to combine.
  • Form dough into small, log-shaped cookies of random lengths to resemble cat dukies. Place logs on a baking sheet and refrigerate until firm. Roll chilled logs in Grape nuts until cereal adheres to the dough -- the cookies don't have to be totally covered with the cereal, they should look sort of random or realistic.
  • Place on ungreased baking sheets and bake in a preheated 350° oven for 10-15 minutes or until lightly browned. Remove from oven and place cookies on a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Line a clean litter box with foil and cover bottom with additional Grape Nuts cereal. Add cookies to the 'litter' and serve with a new (clean) litter scoop. LOL.

  1. These look fantastic! One change, I chilled the dough a bit before rolling to make it easier to handle. My two daughters (7&9) handled the shaping and rolling in GrapeNuts. They look great! The only reason they got a 4 instead of a 5 is because they're good cookies but not great cookies, flavor wise. I think the GrapeNuts could be off putting to some, although I liked them. Thanks for such a great recipe!

  2. These look very realistic!! My kids begged me to make these for about a week. My daughter is taking these to school for their snack. After chilling I had to press the Grape Nuts into the cookie dough, may have been easier to roll in the cereal before chilling. The taste is OK but the fun is watching peoples reactions. Thanks for sharing! Dawni
