Chagrin Falls Bacon

"This is one of those old family recipes that, every few years, everyone starts looking for. This year no one could find it so I hunted all over for the recipe and then passed it on to my brother and a cousin. So mostly I am posting it here so I don't lose it! Very tasty but certainly not an everyday type recipe. We originally got this from a family friend who was from Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Hence the name!"

  1. This was a big hit at our holiday party and so easy to prepare. I think everyone is in high anticipation of the next cocktail party so they can get some more of this tasty treat. Thanks for this recipe.

  2. A very good recipe. I lined the pan with parchment paper and laid the whole strips of bacon on the paper. I then sprinkled the sugar mixture over them. Very yummy!

  3. This is fantastic!! I served this for Christmas brunch with french toast, potatoes & fruit. I love the way the sugar carmelizes on the bacon. And, the spices are perfect together with the meat. Because I had made a similar recipe before & set off the smoke detector as brunch guests were arriving, I decided to freeze, as suggested. However, I wasn't sure how to re-heat the bacon. I put it back in the oven on a rack (to drain off any excess grease) at 375 for 15 minutes - some of the edges burned. So, I'll have to adjust the temp & time for re-heating.

  4. I made this for Christmas brunch as a sort of appetizer to keep appetites appeased as guests arrived. Everyone loved it, my son-in-law, especially. The sweetness and spices really added to the smoky goodness of the bacon. The only change I will make next time is to add some water to the bottom pan to catch the drippings. The sugar in them started to burn before the bacon was completely done, making my place a tad hazy, lol! Thanks for sharing the wonderful recipe, ladypit!

  5. Ahhhh the Aroma of the cloves come through strong! The spices are just a hint in taste it more sweetness you taste. This is very sweet candy like! It gets very dark and is soft till you get it out of the oven let it sit and crisp up. The 1/4 pound of sugar is about 1/2 cup I used light brown sugar. This is not for dieters! A taste treat!
