Chewy Cheesy Soft Pretzels

- 1 1⁄2 cups flour
- 1⁄2 cup shredded cheese
- 2 teaspoons baking soda
- 1 teaspoon sugar
- 3⁄4 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons cold butter
- 2⁄3 cup milk
- 1 egg, beaten
- coarse salt
directions
- Mix first 5 ingredients.
- Cut in butter until crumbly.
- Stir in milk, just until moistened.
- Knead on a floured surface for a minute.
- Divide in half.
- Roll each portion into a 12x8 rectangle.
- Cut each into 8in long strips.
- Fold strips in half; pinching the edges;and twist into pretzel shapes.
- Place on greased baking sheets.
- Brush with egg and sprinkle with course salt.
- Bake at 400* for 12 minutes or until golden brown.

By far, the easiest soft pretzel recipe I have ever made. I addaed just a bit of garlic powder to the dough. Although I admit that I do need some practice on my "pretzel-shaping" skills, they still turned out wonderful (a little deformed/lol). I also like them dipped in ketchup or marinara sauce. After DH and I moved away from the farm, and to the city...I haven't done as much cooking and very little canning. But I do come to Zaar and look for new recipes once in a while. I'm still cooking Zaar!!
I like to play at Facebook, with my family and friends. A lot of my Zaar friends are there!! Yay! It's a good way to keep in touch.
We travel more. We're looking at the European trips now. Hope to go in the springtime. I really want to see London, I think I lived there in a past life, I've been obsessed with it since I was 10 years old!!
