Best Ever Chili Dog Sauce

"DH loves this recipe so much, that when he retires, he's considering buying a mobile concession stand to haul behind our RV to sell these hotdogs. We add cheese, onion and mustard, but that is your choice. This freezes well."

  1. If you are going to add a can of store bought chili, then make this ? Why not just enough cans ?

  2. This recipe is fabulous. I wanted to double the recipe so I doubled the spices and added a can of tomato paste and water until it was the consistency I wanted. I also didn't add the salt called for and was very pleased with the flavor without it. There are so many spices it's just not necessary IMO. Also as 1 reviewer noted why add a can of chili to make chili? I'm not sure what that does for it since you are adding so many wonderful spices. The next time I make it I will just use more tomato paste and go from there. I made this ahead of time for a prayer meeting we are having and it's fabulous still on day 2. I also user Nathan's Bun Length Franks which I put in the chili sauce to cook while it simmered. Very tasty! Simmering for 1 hr would actually probably be sufficient though. Will be serving this on whole wheat buns & with Cheddar Cheese sprinkled on top with a green salad on the side.

  3. I've been making this for years and just never got around to reviewing it. It is wonderful! I make no changes except for using a larger can of Hormel - only because I can never find the lunchbox size. The leftovers freeze well, too. Thanks, Deely, for the great recipe!

  4. I made this for our Memorial Day cookout at the beach. It was a huge hit!! The only thing I did differently was to lower the salt to 1/4 tsp. Thanks for a new Family Keeper, Deely!!

  5. Very good. Just the perfect chili for a hot dog topper. I added a bit more red pepper flakes and some cayenne because I like a little spice. I also couldn't find the 7 3/8 oz lunchbox size of chili so I just used a 10 oz can. Worked out great. Thanks for posting.
