Chili, Plain and Simple but Darn Good

"This is plain and simple but makes a wonderful chili, you may add in other ingredients if desired, my family likes this topped with cheddar cheese and sour cream then served with recipe#105726 --- I strongly suggest to make this 1-3 days ahead the flavors will intensify and ripen, you will really notice a difference in flavor if made ahead --- all amounts may be adjusted to taste."

  1. You sure know all the tricks for making a great meal. The chili hasn't even finished simmering and I already love it. We'll see what the Super Bowl party people think. Changed a couple things to our taste. We like our chili alittle thicker so added abit more beef & drained the beans. Reduced the red pepper flakes & cumin abit to cut some of the heat, however, next time I'll add the full amount cause I didn't find it overly spicy. Added chopped baby canned corn for an interesting color/texture.

  2. We loved it! I did diced fire roasted tomatoes instead of stewed tomatoes. Sooooo good and easy to make!

  3. It doesn't have any flavor at all. To me it is fla.t I wouldn't have known it<br/>was chili

  4. I halved the recipe as I was making this for my lunches. I didn't use the green pepper or oregano. I used petite diced tomatoes instead of stewed as I don't buy stewed tomaotes. I also only used a tablespoon of chili powder. I thought this was a darn good basic chili recipe.

  5. This was a delicious chili. Everyone loved it. I used 1 can of beans, added a little sweet Italian sausage and just a 28 oz. can of stewed tomatoes (along with the 15 oz. can tomato sauce). Served over Fritos with toppings of sharp cheddar cheese, sour cream and green onions. Mini corn muffins to accompany. Cest magnifique!

  2. Thanks, Kit. I just made it and it's the perfect chili base from which to experiment. I drained the bean and tomato juices and replaced it with and an almost equal amount of dark beer (Yuengling B&T) and used black beans and small red beans instead of kidney.

  3. I have tried at least a dozen different chili recipes and this is by far the best one. I used black beans instead of kidney since I don't like kidney and didn't put any green pepper in it but it was awsome!
