- 3 eggs
- 3⁄4 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 1 1⁄2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup dates, chopped
- 1 cup nuts, black walnuts or 1 cup pecans
- 1⁄2 cup maraschino cherry, drained, cut fine

lemon icing
- 1 teaspoon lemon rind
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 cup confectioners' sugar
directions
- beat egg sugar and vanilla.
- sift dry ingredients in fold in dates and cherries and nuts.
- bake in shallow 13 1/2x9 1/2 pan at 350 for 25 minutes.
- until lightly browned.
- mix icing.
- brush over top while warm cut into bars when cool.
