  • Add flowers to oil in a jar with tight fitting lid, let sit for a week.
  • After a week, oil will turn lilac and take on fragrance of chive flowers.
  • Use the oil on salads or in cooking- refrigerate when not in use.
  • The flowers have a milder taste than the leaves and add a decorative touch to salads, oils and other side dishes.

  1. This sounds such a lovely idea that I'd love to give it a high rating. Unfortunately the recipe didn't work for me at all. The flowers lost their colour, but they didn't turn the oil lilac; neither did the oil take on the fragrance of the flowers, it just tasted unpleasant. The oil didn't go cloudy or anything and I don't know what went wrong (I used a sterilised jar and opened a fresh bottle of oil) so if anyone can tell me, I'd be interested to know. Next year, however, I'll leave the chive flowers for the bees.

I live in Carrot River Sk (yes the town is called carrot river) I am a full time mom of three children my son Kaleb who is four, my two daughter's Asia and Vienna- three and two in that order., and our most recent edition a 99'9% siamese kitten named Sander( my son's choice of name). I also work part time. I love looking after my flowers (which i have LOTS of) cross stitching and most outdoor activities i also do some painting and i enjoy baking or cooking. I also love working out both cardio and weights(surprisingly i don't get enough exercise chasing my three children around). I'am getting more into the cooking now b/c of having three very big eaters, besides my husband. i can be contacted at sunmoon_stars_@hotmail.com. If i had a mth off w/ no responsibilities i would love to travel, just for me. chances missed before marriage and children.
