- 2 cups cake flour
- 1 cup Dutch-processed cocoa powder
- 1 1⁄2 cups sugar
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3⁄4 cup buttermilk
- 2 eggs
- 2 tablespoons melted butter
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
directions
- Heat oven to 375°F Grease and flour pan. Sift together flour, sugar, baking powder, nutmeg, and salt in a large mixing bowl. Stir in buttermilk, eggs, butter and vanilla; beat until just combined. Fill each well 2/3 full. Bake 10-12 minutes, until the top of the donuts spring back when lightly touched. Cool 5 minutes in pan; invert onto cooling rack and cool completely. Glaze and decorate if desired.

This was my first try at chocolate baked donuts, and we liked this recipe a lot. It was a tad drier than the other cake donuts I've made before, but still quite tasty. I cut the recipe in half, and that made the 6 donuts my pan will allow. I also sprinkled them with powdered sugar in lieu of frosting. Thanks for sharing the recipe!
