- 4 unsweetened chocolate squares
- 2⁄3 cup shortening
- 2 cups sugar
- 4 eggs
- 1 1⁄2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup nuts
directions
- Melt chocolate and shortening in microwave, checking every 30 seconds to see if the shortening is melted. Do not let chocolate burn. Stir until chocolate is completely melted. Stir in sugar. Cool chocolate mixture until lukewarm. Add eggs and mix well. Add flour and nuts if using, and stir until well blended. Spread into a greased 13 x 9 inch pan. Bake at 350F for 30 to 35 minutes. Do not overbake. Score top of brownies a few minutes after you remove them from the oven. Don't cut all the way through the brownie until they are completely cool.

How about these for a quick & easy chocolate fix ~ They're very moist brownies & certainly don't need any kind of sweet topping, although I DID serve the first few with small bit of strawberry sauce that I'd made! Also used slivered almonds this time around! Thanks for sharing a great recipe! [Made & reviewed for one of my adopted orphan chefs at the end of this Spring's Pick-A-Chef]

I love cooking and baking for others. I just don't love the mess. So I like to find dishes that only require just a few steps to make them. I live in Texas. My favorite cookbook is called Parent's Magazine Cookbook. It's been out of print for years. My mother received it with a magazine subscription, and it has two of our favorite recipes. One is for banana bread, the other is for a versatile pie filling that we use for a banana pie. We mainly make this pie for Christmas, Thanksgiving, Easter, etc.
