  1. Generously butter a 2-quart baking dish or casserole.
  2. Combine bread and chocolate chips in the buttered dish.
  3. Whisk together eggs, sugar and salt in a medium bowl.
  4. Gradually whisk in milk and cream.
  5. Drizzle over bread cube mixture; wrap tightly and refrigerate until ready to bake, several hours or overnight.
  6. At least 1 1/2 hours before serving, preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  7. Uncover baking dish and place on rimmed baking sheet.
  8. Bake pudding until golden brown and a knife inserted into the center comes out clean, 50 to 60 minutes.
  9. Set aside to cool slightly before serving.
  10. To serve, divide pudding among 6 bowls.
  11. Top with ice cream and drizzle with chocolate syrup.
