Chocolate Christmas Mice (Or Anytime Mice)

2 pounds of mice
ingredients
- 1 lb cherries, with stems
- 1 lb Hershey chocolate kiss
- semi-sweet chocolate chips, for melting
- sliced almonds
- icing (optional) or red-hot candies (optional)
directions
- Melt the chocolate chips in a double boiler and dip a cherriy into the chocolate, holding by the stem ("tail").
- Set cherry on its side on waxed paper. This is the mouse's body and tail.
- While chocolate it still gooey, "glue" on a hershey's kiss to the mouse's body, with the bottom of the kiss touching the cherry and the pointy part pointing out, the opposite direction that the tail is pointing.
- Add sliced almonds in the seam for ears.
- Decorate with icing or red hots for eyes and nose.
- Repeat with the rest of the cherries, etc.

These little babies are a huge hit! I strain and dry the cherries than I put the cherries and the kisses (cherry flavored kisses) in the fridge til cold. I dip the cold cherries in the chocolate and put the cold kisses on they firm up very quickly. The ears are the crowning glory. Thanks for a great recipe people start asking me for them in October!

Great recipe! I made these last year and gave them to my students and they loved them! I placed each mouse on half of a double stuffed oreo while assembling so he looks like he's on snow. Then i placed each one in a white muffin paper, wrapped in seran and tied the top with ribbon. These are really cute and if you do them in assembly style they go fairly quickly. Thanks for sharing!

I have found it easier to freeze the cherries beforehand. Dry with paper towels before dipping in chocolate. For adult version, freeze cherries in rum. When ready, remove cherries from rum and dry with paper towels. Or do some of both. Make eyes of the rum based mice a different color from the non-alcohol ones.

I got married to my high school sweetheart in August 06 at the ripe old age of 21, and my husband Luke and I just moved to Birmingham, AL from Auburn. He's in his second year of dental school at UAB. I have a BFA in Graphic Design, and I'm a designer at Time Inc and doing freelance design work on the side. I'm planning to go to grad school for a Master's of Fine Arts in Book Arts some time or another. I had deferred because I think the timing will be better once Luke gets out of school and perhaps I might not need to commute the hour over there.
Getting married and getting HALF of a refrigerator instead of sharing one with seven other girls really ignited a cooking fire in me!
Lately I've been trying to cut out the sugar, which is hard, because Luke likes sugary pancakes and cereal, and because I like baking things. I need to quit baking! Trying to lose the newlywed nine so I can fit into my winter clothes.
