  • In a saucepan over medium heat, bring the sugar, butter, and water to a boil; remove pan from heat.
  • Stir in 1 cup of the chocolate chips and the vanilla; stir until smooth.
  • Cool for 5 minutes.
  • Beat in the eggs, one at a time, until well mixed.
  • Combine the flour, salt, and baking soda; stir into the chocolate mixture just until combined.
  • Stir in another 1 cup of the chocolate chips; pour the batter into a greased 9 x 9" square baking pan and spread the top evenly.
  • Bake in a preheated 325°F oven for 30-35 minutes; cool completely on a wire rack.
  • Place the cooled brownie pan in the freezer for 30-40 minutes (do not freeze completely); cut brownies into 2 x 1" sticks.
  • In a saucepan, melt the remaining 2 cups chocolate chips with the shorteneing; stirring until smooth.
  • Using a small fork, dip the brownies into the chocolate to completely coat them; shake off any excess chocolate.
  • Place the dipped brownies onto a waxed paper-lined cookie sheet; immediately sprinkle tops with nuts (or whatever else you may choose).
  • Allow brownies to set; store in an airtight container in a cool place.
