Chocolate Maple Nut Bars

  • Heat oven to 350°F.
  • Stir together flour, sugar and salt in large bowl; cut in butter until crumbly. Stir in 1 beaten egg. Press mixture evenly onto bottom of ungreased 13x9x2-inch baking pan. Bake 25 minutes.
  • Meanwhile, beat sweetened condensed milk, remaining 1 egg and maple flavor in medium bowl; stir in nuts. Sprinkle chocolate chips evenly over prepared crust. Gently spread nut mixture evenly over chocolate. Return to oven.
  • Bake 25 minutes or until golden. Cool completely in pan on wire rack. Cut into bars. Store tightly covered at room temperature. 24 to 36 bars.

  1. Easy to prepare, with a flavor that (I thought, anyway) improved the next day. My only problem was that the bake time was a little too long for my oven; the edges became quite carmelized and it was difficult to get many of the bars out of the pan. I may try making these once without the chocolate, just to enjoy a nice, nutty shortbread bar... and another time with the chocolate but using vanilla extract instead of maple, to see what I like best. This was very much enjoyed in our house. Thanks for sharing!
