ingredients
- 1 cup butter
- 1⁄2 cup shortening
- 3 cups sugar
- 1 cup milk
- 6 eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla (optional)
- 3 cups cake flour
- 2 teaspoons cocoa
directions
- Cream shortening and butter.
- Add sugar a little at a time.
- Add beaten eggs then vanilla.
- Sift flour twice
- Measure and add cocoa and sift again.
- Add flour alternatively with the milk to first mixture starting with flour and ending with flour.
- Pour into greased and floured tube cake pan.
- Cook for 1 hour and 20 minutes at 300º starting with a cold oven.

Not quite what I expected in the texture & weight of the cake, but that's NOT a minus, & the cake was definitely delicious! Of course, I'm a chocoholic, so . . . . Served the first room temperature slices with a bit of frozen vanilla yogurt & some homemade chocolate sauce that I have just sittin' around! Very satisfying! Thanks for sharing it!
