directions

  • Melt 2 chocolate coins in the microwave or in in a bowl over a pan of simmering water, until liquified.
  • Dip each cylindrical/round chocolate into the melted chocolate and 'glue' to the coins of chocolate, to look like tophats.
  • Sieve icing sugar and add to soft butter and hot water.
  • Mix slowly for 2 minutes, then fast, until light and creamy.
  • Spread buttercream over each cupcake, leaving a little over to 'glue' the hats on later.
  • Place a marshmallow in the middle of each cupcake.
  • Snap each chocolate stick in half and place into the cupcake for arms.
  • Pipe on a green scarf around the marshmallow.
  • Pipe on black eyes and red or orange nose and buttons (If it doesn't stick very well, slightly dampen the side of the marshmallow with a wet finger).
  • "Glue" on the tophat with remaining buttercream.

  1. Thanks for this - really effective for an xmas charity cake sale at work! I used royal icing for the bodies, fondant icing scarves and a decorating pen for the faces (given that my piping is rubbish!)

  2. These were hard for our younger children to do, but it would be fun for older kids to do. The marshmallow was an issue for the younger and so was the hats. These did come out cute and sweet all in one. We changed it up a little for fun. Thanks for sharing.

  3. My child wants to make this for Christmas

  4. Cute idea!

  5. my son saw the picture on the recipe and wanted to take these for his class on his birthday...they turned out perfect!! Thanks! (We used pretzel sticks for the arms instead of chocolate sticks)

Tweaks

  1. Hold the rolo against a warm plate or pan to melt it a bit, then it will stick to the chocolate button without the need for separate melted chocolate.

I am a very late starter in the kitchen. I have a 5-year-old daughter and a 3-year-old son and would love them to enjoy cooking as I never did until recently! I found this website whilst looking for scone recipes.I had tried to make them twice before and ended up with inedible rock cakes!!! I finally got them right after trying one of the recipes here. I like REALLY well-explained recipes, and ones with US/UK conversions.
