  1. If I could give this 25 stars I so would! This has to be the BEST cake I have ever made. It tastes like no other coffee cake I have ever had, and the texture is great. I could have eaten the entire pan but I had to share. This will definitely be made again. If you are reading this and haven't made this yet you have to try this one!! Thanks for a great recipe!

  2. You are so right - another GREAT German recipe. A very light texture for a coffee cake and simple to prepare. I did use chopped almonds in the batter as an option as we love that in our family. Made for the I Recommend Tag game in the Cooking Games with Friends Forum.

  3. This was super easy and very good. Lovely smell and a warm treat in the morning. Did not use the nuts as the boys are not fans, but I do believe it would be even better with the nuts. Did not have the "WOW!" factor for me, but a great, solid and easy recipe with a fine product. Thanks so much, will definitely make again.

  4. Ach du lieber my little liebling! This is a wonderful recipe, and reminds me very much of my very own German oma! This goes together SO easily, and the taste is a perfect breakfast on a Saturday morning. I didn't change a thing (it's perfect as is!), okay I changed one LITTLE thing (but that doesn't count!). I did add about 2 T of oatmeal to the reserved topping, only because that's the way Gramma made it. *ZWT 6 for The Ya Ya Cookerhood*

  5. Fantastic! I took this to school as part of an assignment on the German culture. (Our teacher encourages food! hehe.) Everyone loved it and the guy who sits behind me asked if I'd make another one for him the next day! hehe. ;)

Tweaks

  1. I made this for breakfast this morning it was fantastic. I used unsweetened vanilla milk and 1/4 cup fat free sour cream instead of sour milk, and sifted the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and cinnamon. made a glaze for the top from powder sugar and coffee let my 3 year old granddaughter drizzle it on top. will be making this again. I am thinking that i might make it into cupcakes so i can freeze and take out for breakfast one serving at a time.

  2. Great coffee cake, and easy to make too! I was out of nuts, so used some mini chocolate chips and cinnamon chips in place of the nuts. Thanks for a great recipe.

  3. Outstanding! I did not have nuts, but it didn't need them! I used Soy Milk and Lemon Juice instead of the vinegar. Turned out PERFECT! This is a keeper! Highly recommended! Thanks for sharing!

  4. I omitted the nuts as well. The bottom was very smooth/creamy, the top was just the perfect amount of crunch. I used lemon juice instead of vinegar b/c I didn't have any and used whole milk. Because I misread the directions I sprinkled the cinnamon over the batter before putting the top on and I thought it delicious that way. Thank you very much, it was very enjoyable.
