Coffee Soup

"A tasty depression-era breakfast of convenience. Believe it or not, my grandfather started my mother on this when she was a mere toddler. Poor thing never stood a chance! She still loves her coffee, although she drinks it black nowadays."

  1. I grew up doing this with matzo, something my mother taught me. We just use big coffee mugs though. I've never seen here do it with bread but I started to with the old challah and love it. Good with cinnamon and nutmeg too. Great post!

  2. ABSOLUTELY awesome. I used 2 slices honey wheat bread and artificial sweetener. Also I subbed soy milk and sprinkled with cinnamon on top. Delicious!

  3. I was really intregued when I saw this recipe. I used cinnamon sugar instead of plain sugar since it's suggested in the recipe. Pretty tasty, but not something I would have again, personally. I think it would be best with a nice cinnmon-raisin bread. Be sure that your coffee is really nice and hot- this was much better hot than cool. Thanks!

  4. Here I was thinking that my husband was the only one that EVER did this!!! It's one of his comfort foods he shared with his granny. Great Post Mercy!

  5. Oh my gosh! This did take me back to when I was little in the 50's, and enjoying this with my father. We just ate/drank this from a cup.
