Coleslaw

"A GOOD side dish for chicken, pork, seafood, cookouts, for toppings on a hot dog or with pulled shredded pork similar to southeastern bar-b-que. When my son was a teenager he worked at Kentucky Fried Chicken and this is similar to their recipe."

  • Note: The 4 cups of cabbage is equal to one-half of a large head of cabbage. You may purchase a bag of precut cabbage at the grocery. I use a food processor to finely chop the cabbage. If you do not have one, you may chop with a knife.
  • Using a large mixing bowl, mix all ingredients. The mayonnaise and milk may be increased for a more wet type of coleslaw.
  • Chill in refrigerator for 2 hours to let flavors meld. This coleslaw will last 2 days chilled.

  1. My go-to coleslaw recipe. I do use veganaise instead of mayo, no milk, and agave nectar instead of sugar and some spices to mix it up. Didn’t have relish on hand so I just used some pickle juice! Really yummy!

  2. Delish. Used red wine vinegar because it was what I had on hand. Added tons of carrots because we like it that way. Really happy with this quick and easy recipe!

  3. Goodness, I wanted to love this as I am a huge slaw fan and I love KFC's version. The relish just didn't do it for me in this recipe. I added some horseradish and some dried minced onion to make it closer to KFC's recipe which did make it a little better. Sorry about that!

  4. My fussy husband told me to make it again!!! Just that deserves 5 stars, but I also loved it and it was easy to make with things that I had in the refrigerator. He's diabetic so I used Splenda, sugar free pickle relish, and all low fat items. The only change I made was to use white balsamic vinegar as I didn't have any apple cider vinegar on hand. Thank you, Seasoned Cook!!!

  5. Left out the pickle relish and used 2 T. sugar instead, as we don't care for it in many things, and we really liked the slaw!
