“This is one of my favorite comfort foods from my childhood...the only way I would eat cheesy broccoli! Though now I make it a bit grown up by using artisan cheese (like cheddarjack or white/orange cheddar blend) and adding some crumbled feta and/or broccoli rabe :) Fresh and frozen broccoli work well for this, I like that nuke-able steam-fresh broccoli. I like to have the pan as a main dish, but as a side dish makes about 3 servings.”

Directions

  1. Steam the broccoli if using frozen.
  2. In an 8x8 pan, layer the broccoli florets evenly then sprinkle with black pepper, as much as you'd like.
  3. Top with the cheese and bake at 400 F for 12-15 minutes or until golden brown on top. Use the broiler to speed it up a bit.
  4. Wonderful with some potatoes added!
