Corn Salt Scrub
"I think this is great!! It took me a while to get it right but I am proud of the result. So far as I tested the scrub it does not separate like most scrubs do, making it easier to use. For the oil you can use the lighter oils like almond, jojoba or grapeseed, olive oil can also be used and you will probably have that in your kitchen cupboard. The essential oil is optional and so is the vitamin E. The vitamin E does work as an extra preservative, the salt does that too, and is also very good for your skin, but it does make it more expensive. Great gift!"

2 cups body scrub
ingredients
- 1 cup fine sea salt
- 1⁄4 cup fine cornmeal
- 1⁄4 cup desiccated coconut
- 1⁄4 cup oil, of your own choice
- 1⁄4 bath soap
- 5 -6 vitamin E, capsules
- essential oils or fragrance oil, as desired
directions
- In a glass bowl mix the salt, corn meal and coconut.
- Add the oil, mix.
- Add the liquid soap, mix.
- Cut the vitamin capsules open and add the oil, mix, add essential oil if using and mix well.
- Scoop into a container, plastic is preferred if using this in the shower.
- Use: Take out a finger full and rub/massage the body, rinse of with warm water.
- If using it in the shower, make sure you are on a non-slip surface!

Gorgeous scrub! I made this using ground Basmati long-grain rice as a substitute for cornmeal since I haven't come across the latter here in Oman. Ground rice worked like a charm(A special THANK YOU to Auntie Heather Feather who gave me this suggestion!). For the liquid bath soap, I used my favourite one - Enchanteur Alluring Perfumed Hand liquid soap. This liquid soap is a beautiful baby pink colour and it imparted a very cute baby pink-white mix colour to the scrub. As for the oil, I used my favourite Himalaya Herbals Revitalising Hair Oil. I love the smell of this oil. I had to omit the Vitamin capsules simply because I didn't have any. I used peppermint oil for fragrance and it made the scrub all the more good! I have made several batches of this for gift giving on July 2nd(It happens to be 2 years of completion of my battle against obesity!). I'm so glad you post these scrub recipes. My mom is Dutch and has moved to England in October 2007, after living 15 years in the Netherlands with my English dad. They don’t have any human children and “created” their own family, which means I have to share them with Hannah, she is a 6 years old tortie cat, Abby the dog, she is a 9 year old Beagle, and a one year old black Miniature Pincher named Poppy, I refuse to tell you my age but I am a georgious lilac British Shorthair cat!!
It is obvious she adores pets just by looking at her name she uses on Zaar (many on Zaar call her Pets or Petsie Poo), her name in real life is Annelies and that is a common Dutch name.
My mom always liked to cook, but since she joined Zaar it got out of control, and it doesn’t help that she is disorganized. Printed recipes everywhere in the house, the recipe binders have got bigger and just between you and me, her hips too!!!
I have lived in Holland all of my life until now, but they lived in several different countries/places:- desert and coastal Oman, up North and West in Holland, Vancouver-Canada, Aberdeen- Scotland and in Norway they lived in Bergen and Oslo. We have all moved together to England, as you can see I’ve already learnt the language!
I heard her say to Dad that this is the last time she moved to another country...she's had it with moving from one place to another! ( its her age...she's getting grumpy)
Mom is 55 years old but I always hear her say that the date of her birthday does not mean that much to her, the date of her cancer anniversary is more important, because so far she is a survivor.
Besides cooking she has other interests too, crafts, gardening and soap making.
She likes Zaar and is one of the hosts on the German-Benelux Forum here on RecipeZaar.
