Country Beef Patties

  • In a bowl, combine beef, bacon, onion, salt and pepper.
  • Shape into four oval patties; brown in a skillet over medium heat. Remove patties and keep warm.
  • Drain all but 1 tbl drippings; saute green pepper and onion in drippings until tender.
  • Add tomatoes, bay leaves, sugar, celery salt, salt and pepper.
  • Combine water and flour until smooth; add to tomato mixture, stirring constantly. Bring to a boil; cook and stir for 2 minutes. Return patties to gravy. Reduce heat; cover and simmer for 30 minutes. Uncover and simmer 10 minutes longer. Remove the bay leaves.

  1. These beef patties were wonderful. We really enjoyed the addition of the bacon. Made exactly as written and I wouldn't change a thing. Thank you for sharing this quick and easy to make recipe. I used a red pepper instead of green, (all I had). The patties were tender and flavorful while the gravy was to die for...so yummy. Made for Name That Ingredient Tag Game.
     
  2. Wow! We enjoyed this recipe very much. DH, who is often skeptical of my "internet recipes" asked me to make sure this one was added to the keeper pile. I made it as directed, except that I added 3 slices of bacon, (that's what was left in the fridge), and omitted the celery salt as I didn't have any. I ended up cooking the patties a bit longer (as my 5 month old was needing some encouragement to go to sleep...) but they still turned out well. Thanks!

I am a stay-at-home mom of a 1 year old boy and a 4 year old girl. I love to cook, collect cookbooks, read, cross stitch and play with my children. My husband is an Elementary Principal. It's hard keeping up with his schedule because of all the meetings and events he needs to attend. So, I'm always trying to keep meal planning simple and quick, because many time's he gives me short notice that he'll only be home for 30 min. then off to a meeting or supervising an event. Growing up my mother worked until 5pm and would come home and make a home cooked meal. We very rarely ate out. For me to be to stay at home I wonder how she was able to do it all. My favorite meals that she made were comfort food: goulash, minute steaks with mashed potatoes and gravy, pork chops with gravy and potatoes, beef stew over rice, chicken noodle soup, vegetable beef soup among many others. Everything she makes is from scratch. I won't forget once when I told her I made instant potatoes, I thought she was going to have a heart attack (I still use instant every now and then, just don't let her know). We also spent a lot of time with our grandmother's who knew how to cook.
