Creamed Turnips

"from the Mossey River community cookbook I add more swiss cheese than the recipe calls for, and I also leave out thyme and do 1/8 tsp nutmeg."

  • Peel and quarter turnips.
  • steam turnips with onions until turnips are tender.
  • In a saucepan whisk flour with 2 tbsp milk until smooth.
  • Add remaining milk and cook until thickened.
  • Add spices.
  • Pour over turnip that is in a 1-1/2 qt ovenproof bowl.
  • Sprinkle with cheese.
  • Bake 350 for 15 min.
