Creamy Mexican Salsa

"I don't recall the history of this salsa recipe. But it's one of those childhood moments in which I have specific memories of this spread or dip always being included on the buffet table at the parties my mom and dad hosted in our home. There was never any left, and everyone seemed to enjoy it. It's great with tortilla chips, dry crackers (especially a zesty herb cracker), fresh vegetables and deli snack breads."

  1. Nice and creamy dip. I sometimes mix sour cream and salsa for a little change on nachos, but the addition of the cheddar cheese and avocado makes this so much better. I did add a little extra salsa so it would better hide the avocado color, DH does NOT like avocados but he ate this! Made for ZWT8.

  2. This was made just for 2 of us, so I cut the recipe in half! I'm always leary about using avocado in anything (almost always, anyway!), but it worked out very well here, I we really enjoyed this salsa! Definitely a keeper recipe that I'll be making off & on throughout the summer! Thanks for posting it! [Tagged, made & reviewed in Gimme 5 tag]

  3. This is really really good! The avocado was a great addition. I used a hot spicy salsa because it would lose some heat with the sour cream. I'm glad I did. This turned out just right for everyone. It is a great dip for scooper chips. I think it would make an excellent sauce for chicken - or even as a dressing for a taco salad! Made and Reviewed for PRMR - Thanks! :)

  4. My DH says WOW this is wonderful! I say WOW this is GREAT as it is so simple to put together! Light texture and a nice bite of spice (I used a hot salsa) throughout! Made exactly as written. Thanks NWG for a great dip to make for my hubby! Tagged in 123 Hits.

  5. Very simple and tasty dip. I thought it was a litle bit too mild though so after trying it I did add some more salsa. I liked the subtle avocado flavor. I sat down with a big bowl of this and a bag of tortilla chips for a lazy day lunch since I was home alone. :) Thanks for posting!

This site used to be awesome. It was at the top of its game when it was called Recipezaar, but that was many years ago. The site was purchased by Scripps and belly-flopped into mediocrity. A few of the faithful members remained, hoping to wait out the storm of corporate nonsense. But alas, it never got better and just continued on its terminal path to nothingness. So most of the loyal members have vanished and made homes at better recipe sites.
