  1. Crème De Menthe As with other “crème de liqueurs, this term comes from the French phrase “crème de la crème meaning the “best of the best and does not mean the liqueur contains any cream. “Menthe is the French for mint. To make their Crème de Menthe liqueur, De Kuyper use the oil extracted from fresh mint leaves which is then distilled and infused into a fine spirit. Other ingredients according to De Kuyper’s own recipe are then added – such as sugar and colouring. Once the blend has been made, the mixture is then allowed to marry for several weeks to develop a fuller flavour. Generally the De Kuyper Crème de Menthe referred to on the in-the-spirit website is the Green style unless otherwise specified. Some liqueur producers make a clear version – often referred to as “white but this is very difficult to find and is most likely to be found in the collection of an exclusive cocktail bar rather than in your local supermarket.

  2. This is a VERY good recipe however, as one reviewer noticed "no creme anywhere", so I added one recipe of sweetened condensed milk #14062 and only added 1 cup of sugar.

  3. Just a little note - if you buy Creme de Menthe in a bottle there is no cream nor does it have a creamy texture. I looks like a clear, green liquor :-) Creme de Cacao isn't creamy either!

  4. A good recipe, but no "creme" anywhere in the list of ingredients. I used this recipe, but substituted one cup of cream instead and it made a tasty and refreshing drink. I didn't use any food coloring, so the green is not at appetizingly green as it should be, but the taste is lovely.

Most of my recipes are dairy free since I discovered many years ago that I am lactose intolerant. While I have had to give up some much-loved recipes, we have discovered that most can be modified to accommodate the changes to our diet. Most of my recipes say dairy free but there are a few from my childhood that may have dairy! I also have an intolerance to MSG so we spend a lot of time reading labels. Usually, it is just easier to cook from scratch, so we don't use many pre-made foods from the grocery store.</p> I like recipes I can make with minimal ingredients, real food I have in my kitchen, that are also easy to make!
