1. Finally someone has put on the web the right recipe! Everyone else has changed the ingredients. I have been making this recipe since it came with the crockpot and wore out the book! My son is now making it and needed the recipe and I was having a hard time locating it. I make this for all events. Thank you so much.

 2. I was looking for an easy bean dish so I decided to give this one a try. The bacon, hamburger, and the different varieties of beans were a perfect combination! Today I found myself sneaking into the fridge and taking out a spoonful every now and again. FABULOUS COLD! I only added 1 1/1 tsp of the liquid smoke and I felt that it still overpowered the beans just a bit. (It obviously hasn't stopped me from dipping into the leftovers!) My reasons could be that I have never really cooked with this flavoring. Next time I make this dish I think I'll add just 3/4 tsp or a whole one. YUM!

 3. Have you ever tasted what looked to be a simple dish and just had to say, "Oh My Goodness! This is Great!!!"? This is one of those recipes : ) I used 1 full cup of chopped red onion, 2 undrained 28 oz cans of pork and beans, a 15.5 oz of kidney beans (drained) and a 28 oz can of butter beans (drained). After browning the ground beef and onion and discarding the grease, I transferred it to the crockpot and fried the bacon. This is such a simple recipe for such wonderful results! The flavors make a very tasty combination which would be a choice side dish for any get together or potluck. Or even great as a main dish for a family night supper. Thank you, MG, for sharing all of your wonderful recipes!

 4. I made these last night for the current "pick your chef" event. These beans were so easy to put together and they smelled heavenly when I got home from work. I made some cornbread to go with this and we were not disappointed. My only problem (my fault entirely) was that I forgot to tell my hubby to turn off the crockpot, so they were a bit overdone. Not burned but not much juice in them at all. But that aside, these beans were delicious and will go into my do-over file

 5. I made this ahead on Saturday morning so we would have something hearty waiting when we returned from a day trip to the mountains. This was so good! It smelled wonderful when we came home and tasted even better! Thanks for a great recipe. :)

Tweaks

 1. Not a tweak but a CORRECTION: Someone along the way has changed my recipe. The name is Calico Beans, It uses 1 can not 4 cans pork and beans, AND it should have 1 pkg hot dog cut up in it. Its also missing the mustard in the bbq sauce.

 2. Everyone in my family loved this. It makes way more that 6 servings (more like 20). I used 1 cup of onions, and substituted spicy chili beans for the kidney beans. Instead of butter beans, I used 1 can each of black beans and lima beans (drained both of these). I also cut down white sugar to 3/4 cup and eliminated the liquid smoke. By the way, I used 4 16-oz cans of B&M baked beans and took out the chunks of pork fat.

Back then the original owners Troy and Gay ran the site and they had a lot of interaction with the members. I miss them.

Through the years it still remains to this day my favorite go to site and the one that I send all of my friends and family to when they need anything.
8724616"
