  1. Cream butter - add sugar gradually and beat thoroughly. Add beaten eggs, molasses, milk, sherry, rum and flavoring.
  2. Dredge fruit and nuts in one cup of flour. Sift remaining flour, baking soda, cream of tartar, and spices, and add to mixture with fruit. Mix well with a spoon.
  3. This mixture will make three cakes using 2 round tins (approximately 8x3-inch) and one round tin (approximately 6x3-inch) . Line well-greased pans with heavy waxed paper.
  4. Fill pans 3/4 full and bake 3-4 hours at 300°F.
