Crumb Cake Mix

"Have you ever thought of making your own cake mix? This recipe is quick and easy. It makes about 6 cups of cake mix and is perfect for a small family. The recipe is easily doubled. Half Splenda/half sugar or Splenda for baking can be used in the mix with equally good results. This recipe is an adaption of a recipe that comes from More Make a Mix Cookery. Use this recipe when making dump cakes or Chocolate Crumb Cake, Lemon Pound Cake of Yellow Crumb Cake (recipes to be posted seperate)."

 1. This worked great for your Peach Dump Cake for 2. Thanks for sharing.

 2. I followed the directions exactly (using 2 1/2 cups of mix as suggested by another review) and could not understand why my usual dump cake had such a hard crust. I own a copy of More Make A Mix and looked up the original recipe. The original calls for 1 1/2 cups of vegetable shortening to be worked into the flour/sugar mix until it is like corn meal. I mixed another batch with the shortening and weighed out 18 ounces (which is a usual cake mix) and it was a little more than 3 1/2 cups dry. (lightly spooned and leveled off in the cup). It worked perfectly. I guess if the fat-free version works for you and you get good results, then go for it! Thanks for posting.

 3. This works beautifully with Paula's recipe #125391. I made only 1 cup and I still had plenty leftover for another use. Thank you, Paula!

 4. This recipe was excellent! Used 2 1/2 Cups of it instead of a box of yellow cake mix in Dump Cake Dump Cake...turned out AWESOME!! Thank you for posting this!

 5. I made up this recipe to use in Paula's Peach Dump Cake for 2 #125391 (only I made it for 4) and it worked beautifully. I am looking forward to trying it in some of her other recipes that call for it in future. Good to have on hand to have a quick dessert 'fix' on the table at short notice.

I came to this site in March of 2004. It was then called Recipezaar. This site was the first on-line site that I ever joined. I first popped in 2003 while searching for a Peach Cobbler Recipe. In March of 2004, DH was having shoulder surgery and I was looking for a Split Pea Soup. Once again I found myself on Zaar as it came to be called. Over the years I hung out and learned from some of the best home cooks in the country, I posted over 700 recipes on the site, reviewed over 3500 recipes and posted over 3000 food photos. Over the next 10 years the site made many changes and in 2010 it was sold to to Food Network and became Food.com. Until last year we played games, talked and shared with one another. As a result of the community and the relationships I built I got to meet some wonderful people from all over the country. I also have a great number of friends that I have never meet face to face. Some of us still hang out at various places across the net. Zaar was more than a cooking community. It was an internet community of friendship. Life is an adventure ever changing.
