Crusted Baked Pork Chops

"I adapted this recipe from one a friend's Mother gave me over 25 years ago. Since I am such a recipe fiend I have tried many different and delicious pork chop recipes, but this is the one my family always loves and asks for. And it is so simple to make."

ingredients

  • 6 -8 pork chops (I use 1-inch thick boneless center cut)
  • 2 -3 cups milk
  • garlic salt (to taste)
  • 16 ounces keebler's Club crackers (other crackers could be used, but the results will NOT be the same)

directions

  • Put pork chops in a shallow dish or zip-loc bag.
  • Add enough milk to cover chops.
  • Soak pork chops in the milk several hours or overnight in the refrigerator, turning if necessary.
  • Crush the club crackers into coarse crumbs.(I place them in a zip-loc bag and crush them with a rolling pin.).
  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees Fahrenheit.
  • Remove pork chops from milk.
  • Season VERY well with garlic salt (I often use Morton Nature's Seasons in place of the garlic salt).
  • Dredge seasoned chops with the cracker crumbs, making sure they are well coated with crumbs.
  • Place the coated crumbs on a cookie sheet.(I use an ungreased one and never have a problem with sticking. You can spray it lightly with PAM if you prefer.).
  • Bake for 1 hour in preheated 325 degree Fahrenheit oven.
  • Cooking time includes soaking overnight.
  • Slight variation: Sometimes I will season with Morton's Nature's Seasons instead of the garlic salt.
  • ***I have tried this with other crackers, it is okay, but just not quite as good***.

  1. Wow, these were great. I even forgot to put on the season salt until 35 minutes into baking (I added it then) and these were great! Thanks!

  2. My better half and I loved this simple dinner.... great with a side of mashed potatoes and veggies. I had to use a combination of crackers (that's all I had), seasoned to taste, and thin boneless chops (that's all I had)..... Very simple and tasted great!

  3. I used the club crackers as recommended but found them a bit on the sweet side even though I added seasonings to them as well as the chops. My teen seemed to like them alright. I lined my pan with parchment paper and the bottoms were quite soggy in the end.

  4. wow! my hubby sure loved these. I heard at least 3x from him how much he liked these and how he'd like to have them again. :) he also ate three helpings!! I liked them too, and think they'd be even better with some salt & pepper or creole seasoning or something to add some more flavor. I used reduced fat crackers and 2% milk, so that might be why I'm searching for more zing. still, this is a wonderful keeper that I plan on making again and again. thank you so much for sharing!

  5. Very good! I lined my baking sheet with foil and oiled it lightly. I used Ritz crackers as that is what I had on hand, and Montreal Steak Seasoning. DH told me twice how good dinner was, that earns you an honorary 6th star! Thanks for sharing, Nick's Mom

Tweaks

  1. These pork chops are outstanding. We loved them. The chops were very tender and well done. I soaked the pork chops in the milk for about six hours and turned them whenever I went to the refrigerator for something else.I used Ritz crackers because I couldn't find Keebler's Club Crackers, and added a few shakes of kosher salt, fresh ground black pepper, garlic powder instead of garlic salt, and a dash of sage to the crumbs. Will definitely make this recipe again. Thanks for posting. :) Burnice
