  1. Melt chocolate, butter, milk, and vanilla together in small saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly, until smooth and glossy.
  2. Stir in your choice of "add-ins.".
  3. Turn into well-greased 8x8 pan; chill until firm, at least 3 hours, and cut into squares.
  4. RECOMMENDED VARIATIONS-- Try different types of chocolate chips, or a mixture: milk chocolate, dark chocolate, semi-sweet, butterscotch, mint, cinnamon, etc. Use some dried cranberries or blueberries. Stir in sliced almonds, chopped walnuts (with maple extract rather than vanilla -- mm), peanuts, or chopped pecans. How about macademia nuts and craisins? Crushed peppermint candies, caramels, or M&M's would be great too.
