Questions & Replies

 1. Is this cooked stove top or in oven. If in oven what temp? seems like 45 min. on stove top could be a bit long unless you are simmering.

 2. Hi is there a substitute for the ketchup as my mum is allergic to tomato's

 1. I gave this 5 stars even though I didn't make it, I didn't want to mess up your ratings. There are many articles that can be found online about how heating Aspartame is not a good thing. I was taught to never ever do this by a few chefs I worked for. I attached a link that might be of interest. There are many other references all over the web.

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2011/11/06/aspartame-most-dangerous-substance-added-to-food.aspx

 2. I made this recipe a few times . The first time I made it exactly to the recipe. The other times a made a few adjustments. I use bone in Skinless chicken thighs. I add about a 1/4 cup brown sugar to the Ketchup and Diet Cola, and instead of cooking this on the stove top. I cook it all day in the Crock Pot. The chicken falls off the bone and it's been a huge hit at my Church Functions.

 3. I have been making Diet Coke Chicken for years. I started out using Diet Coke and I always wondered if regular Coke worked as well. To my surprise, it did! I have always used chicken tenderloins (only difference from chicken breast, more chicken, serves more people.) But my ketchup and Coke/Diet Coke I've always mixed equal parts, 1 c. Ketchup & 1 c. Coke/Diet Coke, 2 c. Ketchup & 2 c. Coke/Diet Coke. Using to much Ketchup, tastes just like Ketchup. Use too much Coke, causes the sauce to be really thin and it doesn't stuck to your chicken. Always works for me!!! Hope this helps. Enjoy!

 4. I was excited to see a recipe so simple so I tried this one. For me it turned out WAY to ketchupy (if thats a word ;) ). I even did as the other raters said with substituting part of the ketchup for tomoatoe paste. It was blah.. My husband and I both ate it but it wasnt something that after eating we said "Wow that was good." Thanks for posting.

 5. The chicken was super yummy. I added 2 tbsp. of garlic and a bit of pepper, too. The only issue I had is that the instructions aren't very detailed for a newbie cook like me. I needed to to know what temperature I needed the stovetop to be for the 45 minute stretch. I did it on medium, but the cola/ketchup mixture ended up being totally burned up and added a black crusty layer to the chicken. So a little more detail would be good. Thanks!

Tweaks

 1. Very easy to cook / prepare. I love the idea of a 3 ingredient dish. I used Italian diced tomatoes instead of ketchup. The dish was nothing special, very average. Might try again with some tobasco and/or curry.

 2. I made this tonight for dinner and the whole family loved it. I cut one large onion in slices and added them to the pan while I was browning the chicken (I used about a tablespoon or two of veg. oil instead of the cooking spray). I also added a little garlic powder and black pepper to the ketchup/soda mixture and blended it well before pouring over the chicken. Everyone loved the way the house smelled while it was cooking. I served the chicken with mashed potatoes and green beans ... mmmm .. easy and good!!

 3. We just finished having this for dinner and everyone enjoyed it. I used chicken fillets instead of breasts, Diet Dr Pepper Berries and Cream, and served this over brown rice. I have already added this to my recipe book since I definitely will be making this again. It is really so easy to make!

 4. This chicken is so good and tender. The only reason I gave it 4 stars is that it seemed too sweet to me, as written. The second time I made it, I used 8 oz. tomato sauce instead of the ketchup. I also used the Splenda-sweetened Diet Coke. It was PERFECT!

 5. I have made this several times now. Sometimes I follow the recipe exactly, or else I use pureed tomatoes and sugar substitue instead of the ketchup, and I add onions to the sauce. Whichever way i do it everyone enjoys it and asks for more.
