Dolly Parton's Cowboy Pork and Beans

"Another celebrity recipe from my collection. I have never heard of October beans, but the University of Tennessee has this to say: "Horticultural beans, known as shelly or October beans, are grown on a limited acreage in Tennessee.""

  1. I tripled this recipe and took it to a potluck. I came home with an empty pot and requests for the recipe. Easy and tasty. I did cut back on the mustard a bit, but followed the rest to a T.

  2. Just wondering why they are using beef ???

  3. These are great I made them tonight.I did leave out the onions and bell pepper My husband can't have them.I did add 2 cups of ketchup sound like a lot I know but they were mighty good!! OH and I use 3 11oz cans of pork and beans.

  4. Very good flavor. It was a different kind of dish than I'm used to, so I would prefer it as a side dish.

  5. I have used this recipe (called Dollywood Cowboy Beans) published in Fix-it and Forget-it Cookbook. The only difference is my recipe calls for 1 small onion, 1 28-oz can pork and beans, and 1 1/2 c. ketchup. I throw all the ingredients into the crockpot and cook on low 1-2 hours. It tastes wonderful and is easy!! People always ask me for the recipe!
