  • Preheat oven to 300 degrees.
  • In a large bowl, mix the Crisco and sugar until smooth.
  • Add vanilla and eggs and continue to blend
  • Add salt and baking soda.
  • Add in mashed bananas and continue to blend while adding buttermilk.
  • Stir in flour and walnuts and mix thoroughly.
  • Add maple syrup, nutmeg and cinnamon.
  • Pour batter into glass loaf pan, leaving about 1/2 inch of space for bread to rise but adding more batter to the center (to get the dome shape).
  • Place in oven and bake for 1.5 hours.

  1. We had a little trouble with this in the oven; the batter remained quite liquid as it rose and overflowed the pan. It also took a bit longer to bake than listed. The final result is very nice, however; soft, fine-textured, and delicious. Made for Pick A Chef, Apr. 09.
