  1. When you spread the butter: should it cover the entire top of the cake mix?

  1. I've never heard of a dump cake before but it was so good. It doesn't get any easier than this. I too, like previous reviewer, used butter instead of margarine, and it was perfect.

  2. Used gluten free cake mix with this , everyone loved it ! Even non glutenfree people !

  3. My usual version only uses 1 stick butter. The extra butter takes it over the top! I never use the nuts. I made one blueberry and one cherry for a Memorial Day picnic! Also used a 19 oz can of crushed pineapple. Bertha, thank you for the recipe! I took some of each to my neighbor and now she also wants the recipe!!

  4. I've made this cake for over 40 years & it is not only EASY, it is DELICIOUS & everyone always wants the recipe! I've only used cherry pie filling.

  5. Crumbly, buttery, tangy, sweet and fruity all at once. Easy and delicious!

  2. Guess my tooth is not as sweet as other folks. The recipe fascinated me and I really wanted to try it, so I did - and was terribly disappointed. It is far too sweet for my taste. My DH did enjoy it, though - said it resembled apple crisp. Perhaps a bit of lemon juice over the fruit would help? Or maybe even using another can of fruit instead of pie filling? Sorry I can't be more accommodating in my rating of this dessert, but perhaps down the road I'll try it again.

  3. Not something I want often, but good when you need it. Extremely sweet. Was concerned it would be too liquid b/c I used 1 can each cubed pineapple w/juice & peaches in light syrup chopped in food processor, added the bottom of a jar of strawberry preserves and orange juice to top the combo at 36 ozs (like total of pie filling and pineapple would be). Topped cake mix w/chopped almonds, and 1/2 c melted unsalted butter. Next time I think I'll try cranberry sauce instead of pie filling.

I am married and have three children ages 9 to 16. I work full-time so between work and attending as many school functions as I can possibly fit in, I have little time to prepare "gourmet" type dishes which require a lot of preparation time. I like tasty, quick-fix meals that use ingredients that are usually in my house and don't require an extra trip to the store. When I'm not waiting on my family or working, I like to do counted cross-stitch and recently started a new hobby----quilting.
