Dutch Crumble Apple Pie

"Another family favorite that comes from my Aunt Barb. Family members are known to hide the pie whenever it arrives at family functions (Bad Uncle Rick!), so they can have the pie all to themselves!"

 1. I love how simple and delicious this recipe is. Perfectly sweet too :)

 2. Oh my goodness, what an INCREDIBLE pie! I did make a few minor changes that helped it along, though:

I made my own pie crust- so quick and easy and simple.
I added a pinch of allspice, more nutmeg, and a pinch of ginger to the apples.
I reduced the sugar in the filling (no measurements, just until it felt right), but added more sugar to the topping. I like the contrast, it makes each bit interesting. :)
It was a little too juicy, so next time I will pat the apples dry a bit before mixing them.

Keeps perfectly in the fridge! I enjoyed a delicious cold slice for breakfast.

 3. I saw this photographed and reviewed in Spring, 2010 PAC and just HAD to make it. I used a Mrs. Smith's frozen pie crust and it worked just fine. The crumbly topping was fun to work with. I turned my oven up to 375F and I still needed to bake it longer than the 30 mins. Closer to an hour. Very yummy pie, and a pleasant change from the basic apple pie we're all used to. Thanks for sharing.

 4. Delicious and not overly sweet! I used a Pillsbury roll-out ready made pie crust, granny smith apples and freshly grated nutmeg ~ I'm not sure if the bake temperature is incorrect on the recipe and needs to be increased, but I baked my pie at 350F for 1 hour to get the crumb crust to brown! Made for Spring PAC 2010 ~
