Dutch Babies Pancakes

"This puff pancake is one of our favorites! We serve it with a sprinkling of lemon juice, a dusting of powdered sugar and then some maple syrup but, fruit on top is always a nice touch! If you add fruit, layer it over the top of the batter, just before baking. We've used blueberries, sliced peaches and sliced apples (dusted with cinnamon) and all were very good!"

directions

  • Preheat oven to 450 degrees.
  • Beat eggs until well aerated. Add milk and beat again. Add salt and flour and beat on low, just until blended.
  • Meanwhile, put butter into a 9 x 13 baking dish, or divide it into two round cake pans, or two large cast iron skillets and place in the preheated oven to melt the butter and heat the pan(s). Tip pans to spread butter evenly.
  • Pour batter into the warm pan(s), top with fruit, if you want to add some and place in the oven. Bake for 15 minutes.

  1. Made great mini dutch babies... yum

  2. I have never made a puff pancake or German pancake before, but this was not only an easy recipe to fix, but it looked and tasted like a real breakfast treat. Next time I am going to try it with our blueberries and by next time I mean within the week. Thanks for another great recipe!

  3. Hey, great recipe. I halved it but otherwise followed it exactly. It is a little strange looking considering its a pancake, but if you don't call it that, then it just looks really pretty. It tastes great, although next time I would probably add less butter and I would add a bit of sugar to the recipe so that I could skip the syrup. Thanks for posting!

  4. My stepmom used to make this for me when I was little, she called it Lazyman Pancakes, it was something I looked forward to... These are so good. Just found this recipe and can't wait to make this for my son. I was thinking maybe we'll do breakfast for dinner tonight:-)

  5. Made this exactly as the recipe instructed and it was great, pretty too! DH and I both enjoyed it with an apple crisp topping and fresh whipped cream. Unfortunatly the DGSs (whom I made it for as they were visiting) wouldn't even try it. They are so picky and it just LOOKED differant. Oh well, I will be making it again when they are NOT visiting. Thanks Likkel, it is wonderful.
