ingredients
- 1⁄2 cup shortening
- 1 1⁄2 cups self-rising flour
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup thick applesauce
- 1 cup raisins
- 1⁄4 cup cocoa powder
- 1⁄2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 egg, lightly beaten
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 cup chopped nuts (I use pecans)
directions
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
- Grease and flour a 13x9x2-inch cake pan.
- Combine all ingredients, adding the nuts last and stir until well blended.
- Pour into prepared cake pan.
- Bake 45-50 minutes.

Excellent!! This recipe is Super Quick and so tasty. I did make a few modifications. I used 1/2 cup brown sugar and 1/2 cup white sugar...1/4 Cup of oil and 1 Cup + 2 tablespoons of applesauce....Was delicious!! We all loved it. It will most definately be one that I make often. Thanks so much! -
We all loved this except for the pecans, my kids weren't that fond of them so I will make again but without them, but it has a lovely taste, the raisins were yummy ( I used sultanas) very moist and moreish!!!!! thanks
