Easy No-Chill Sugar Cookies

"This recipe is from Wilton and was on the back of some cookie cutters I recently purchased. I liked that it didn't require chilling. It's a rich, buttery cookie, very tasty."

directions

  • Preheat oven to 400 degrees.
  • In mixing bowl, cream butter with sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in egg and vanilla.
  • Mix flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl; add to butter mixture 1 cup at a time, mixing after each addition.
  • Do not chill dough. Divide dough into two balls. On a floured surface roll each ball into a circle approximately 12" wide and 1/8" thick. Dip cookie cutter in flour and cut out cookies.
  • Bake on ungreased cookie sheet for 6 - 7 minutes or until cookies are lightly browned. It helps to line pans with parchment paper for easy cookie removal.

Questions & Replies

  1. Softened or un softened butter?

  2. How long can you keep the dough in the freezer before rolling and baking?

Reviews

  1. I needed to make a lot of cookies for an upcoming cookie decorating party for 3 year olds. I tried this recipe today, and I will never use a different recipe! I doubled the recipe and divided it into fourths to roll it out. Easy to put together, a dream to roll (and re-roll), easy to transfer, and baked up beautifully. The taste is very good, and they are tender without being fragile. I’m so pleased!

  2. I've never been so disappointed in my life! These cookies spread, even after adding additional flour AND chilling, that i don't even want to decorate them! My cutouts are blobs. Wasted my time baking this recipe.

  3. Everything turns out great until you put the cookies in the oven at 400° for six minutes they come out burnt on the bottom I'm going to try five minutes and see if it works.

  4. These came out great. I made a double batch and made about 76 medium sized cookies. Not too soft and not to crunchy...

  5. It's a great recipe to teach young children to make. I make it while kid sitting with the neighbors and had a lot of fun!! Turned out quite well.
