directions

  • Follow instructions on cake box for making an oblong single layer cake.
  • Prepare cake batter and set aside.
  • Cut up butter in small pieces and place all over the bottom of the oblong pan specified on cake box.
  • Sprinkle brown sugar generously over the butter.
  • Place pan on the stove (or in the oven) and heat slowly until butter and sugar melt to a liquid then remove from heat.
  • Evenly space the pineapple slices around the bottom of pan in the heated sugar and butter.
  • Place the cherries and nuts between the pineapple slices (Tho the cherries and nuts look nice and taste great, they are optional).
  • Pour cake batter on top of the pineapple/cherry/nut mixture.
  • Place in oven and bake as directed on cake box.
  • As soon as cake is done place a plate over the cake and turn upside down and carefully remove pan.
  • If you wait too long the sugar will harden and be difficult to remove.
  • Note: Peaches may be used in place of pineapple.

Reviews

  1. This is a super easy and very delicious cake. The topping bakes right into the cake and makes for a very flavorful dessert. To remove it from the pan, I lined a cookie sheet with foil, put it on top of the cake, then flipped them over. Worked great. This is very good, I recommend you try it!

  2. This cake is really yummy, I'd made it co-incidentally 3 days back:) Its quite similar to Chef Tebo's Easy dump cake and is really "MMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM"!!

  3. Good cake....Next time I will try the light brown sugar instead of the dark just to see how it comes out...

  4. Wonderful, light, flavorful, large and easy to make. I used a 9x13 oblong pan, about 2 cups of light brown sugar (didn't have dark brown and we like brown suger) 2 cans of pineapple chunks, (didn't have slices but the chunks covered every inch of the cake top and would use them again)and the maraschino cherries but not the walnuts. Great results with no complaints in my house and no cake left either. A keeper for sure!

  5. Wonderful! I however made a smaller version in a round pan using the "Jiffy" cake mix. Its just easier to have a plate for and there are no left overs (always keep wanting more you know)!

Tweaks

  1. Easy, great recipe. I added vanilla extract to the cake mix and sugar/butter mixture ~ then I added the juice from the pineapples and a bit of water til required amount was met. Looks yummy, will have tomorrow. Thank you for sharing this wonderful recipe.

  2. Make it better by using the pineapple juice instead of water! Ive always made the quick version... sometimes in a cake pan and sometimes in a cat iron skillet...

  3. Used pineapple in its own juice. Used the juice in the can plus a little water to make one cup. Added a couple big tbs of Greek yoghurt and used 1/2 stuck butter and 1/2 cup rule in gold for the topping and baked in a 9 in cake pan. Also used Pillsbury sugar free yellow cake mix

  4. I used almond and coconut milk instead of water and I add the juice from my pineapples in the cake batter as well.. then I added pecans in the pineapple circles

  5. I added 1/2 t of maple flavoring to my white cake mix and used crushed pinapple instead of the rings. It is awesome, melts in your mouth!
