Tomato-Green Bean Shepherds Pie

"An easy weeknight favorite! Great served with salad and crunchy bread! Got this off the back of the Idahoan Potatoes box... with this recipe, we prepare the Mashed Potatoes the way we like to serve them (butter, sour cream, etc...) before putting on top of the casserole. We really like it that way, but its all personal preference I guess... Enjoy! Posting for access to shopping list."

  1. How do you make the best shepherds pie crust? (As in Keith Richard's "Don't bust the crust")

  1. hi everyone a sily thing really i have made different shepherds pies for my kids now they are all grown up,but i cant remember how to get the potato on top of the meat witout it sinking, brain freeze lol

  2. This was good! It was a great place to start. I, of course, made some changes. We used a can of mixed veggies instead of green beans. In the meat sauce I added worcestershire sauce, red wine and a little tomato paste. I also omitted the egg white.

  3. This was my first time making shepherds pie. My family loved it! I also added worchestershire sauce and some thyme for seasoning. I saw these ingredients frequently used when searching for other recipes of shepherds pie. Turned out great. Thanks:)

  4. delicious! I used tomato sauce in place of the diced tomatoes because that's what I had on hand. Everyone loved it!

  5. A great comfort food. i didnt have any fresh garlic, but granulated garlic was a fine substitute. Next time i will drain the beef more thouroughly, since there was some liquid on the bottom of the baking dish when i served this, but still, it was delicous!

  2. Deeeeelicious!! Didn't really measure the potatoes and perhaps we could have used a bit more. Subbed broccoli for green beans as it's what I have on hand. DH says we can have this meal ANYTIME!! Thanks, Mrs. Lumpy!

  3. I've made this several times so far. A good, basic recipe that can be tweaked according to your personal taste. Like a previous reviewer, I've substituted a can of sweet corn (drained) for the green beans. I've also added a can of mushrooms to the beef mixture which was a tasty addition. There is some "juice" on the bottom when the baking is complete~ I'm still trying to figure out how to cut back on that. Preparation is simple, as are the ingredients. Watch carefully once you baste the potatoes with the egg white (it scorches easily). Thanks, Mrs. L, for a quick and easy weeknight meal!

  4. I'm not a big green bean fan so I added corn instead of the beans. I also added a little worcestershire sauce and tabasco to the meat for a little kick. It came out perfect.
